About Me

I'm English - I Can't Help It !

About Me - I grew up surrounded by the beautiful leafy countryside in Lancashire, England, and spent happy hours on my bicycle looking at the wild animals, flowers and birds that lived around me. I grew up surrounded by beauty.

No visitor in those days ever crossed an English threshhold without being offered a cup of tea. Even the coal delivery man was grateful for a quick cuppa, but of course we gave him his outside!

It was, and I hope still is, a tradition that continues today. I haven't been home in 22 years and I am determined, with the help of this website, to get back for a long visit soon!

Nearly every weekend and holiday my mum and I would go somewhere. It was usually to an historic place, often a castle or manor house with breathtaking gardens, and more than likely a tea room.

We went two-up on a red and white Lambretta, through rain and sun, stopping at quaint cottage tearooms along the way.

The English Lake District was one of my favorite places, also the SW peninsular, Devon and Cornwall, where there are some spectacular beaches and countryside.

That was where I discovered Devon Tea! (And scrumpy later - but that's another story!)

We stopped for tea, everywhere. If we couldn't, there was always a vacuum flask of hot tea that went along with us.

More About Me!

Later, I moved to London and worked as a legal secretary. Every afternoon a lady would come around with a cart laden with tea and cakes.

No shoveling coins into a machine for us! We got the real thing.

Some years later, I was asked by a titled lady to serve afternoon tea during Wimbledon Tennis fortnight. She had a private gate through to the courts (and probably still does). I was living in Wimbledon Village at the time and had a small gardening business. I did that for three years, and each year was honored to meet the Duke and Duchess of Kent. The Duchess drank tea as we talked, as I prepared sandwiches and strawberries for their afternoon tea.

Now I live in Florida, and today (June 14th) it is too hot to venture outside to do anything, and will remain that way probably until late October.

I forgot to mention too, antiques have always been a great interest of mine, on both sides of the pond.

So why this tea site?

It allows me to reminisce for one, share authentic experiences of afternoon teas and antiques, and I can indulge my love of writing too.

It never dawned on me that I could achieve this with a website, until, quite by accident, I came across the wonderful family of people at Site Build It!

I quickly realized that my passions could be turned into this - afternoon-teas-please.com, so I can share my experiences with you. Too hot for tea? Never! I still drink tea all day and I'm as healthy as a horse! Anyway that's enough about me!

The English Lake District; Walk, Walk, Walk Some More and Talk to Sheep. Perfect!

Beautiful English Lakes District
