Hosting a Tea Party and Tea Party Ideas For An Afternoon Tea

Hosting a Tea Party is just a matter of organization and maybe a little help. If you have some good ideas - I would be very happy to add them! Just use the Contact Us form.

Take a few minutes to jot down what your guests might enjoy. They are your friends, you know them well. What do they like?

While following tradition and tea party etiquette is nice, don't be a tea snob, you can create your own customs or rituals! No matter what the size or theme of your tea, the important element of any afternoon tea party is careful planning. Decide the occasion and theme of the party first of all. When sending your invitations, (at least two to four weeks in advance), give a specific time your tea will begin and the type of dress requested. Casual, Victorian or appropriate for the Theme of the occasion.

To be a great hostess is an art. If you do it right - your friends will be eager to come back or try and out-do you!

Good food and interesting people go hand in hand, and nothing has to be 'gourmet'!

The fewer the guests, the more elaborate the preparations can be. It is up to you --the hostess --to make everyone feel welcome and at ease. If you are stressed or over-tired, then this will be obvious to your guests. So, again, keep it simple!

Some of your guests might enjoy a few hands of cards.

Card Games or board games are fun, as long as the games don't get too competitive, or take too long.

It is never a good idea to play for anything higher than a penny a point. Or just play for matchsticks and offer the winner a small prize.

Actress Theme parties are becoming very popular.

Sex and The City 2 wowed us all with the wonderful dresses those ladies were wearing. But again, don't make it too competitive.

You don't want any feathers ruffled!

A Victorian afternoon perhaps? Have your guests wear their fanciest church hats, long gloves and a full length tea dress.

If you have a pretty garden to sit in, take your party outdoors with our garden party ideas.

Someone once said an English afternoon tea was just a picnic inside, but no self-respecting Victorian lady would have gone outside without her gloves, a bonnet or a parasol.

There are endless things to think of!

Perhaps you have artist or writer friends that don't know each other. Introduce them!

Have new neighbors moved in? Invite them over! You can tell them where all the best things are in the area and make them feel welcome.

The history of Afternoon Tea is quite interesting, and began back in the mid 17th century when tea first appeared in Briton.
