Her Majesty The Queen Hosts A Royal Garden Party 4 Times a Year

... but She Does Have Some Help In The Kitchen!

A Royal Garden Party is among the most relaxed and informal Royal events, with tea, cakes and the most beautiful gardens to stroll in.

Every summer, The Queen hosts at least three at Buckingham Palace, as well as one at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland and over 30,000 people attend. The quantity of food and tea served at a typical garden party is amazing, approximately 25,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are consumed.

Garden parties have been held at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s, when Queen Victoria instituted what were known as 'breakfasts' (though they took place in the afternoon). In the 1950s the number of garden parties held at Buckingham Palace was increased from two to three a year. They took the place of presentation parties attended by debutantes, but have evolved into a way of rewarding and recognising public service. They are attended by people from all walks of life.

Dressing up for the Royal party is all part of the excitement, gentlemen tend to wear morning dress or lounge suits, while women wear afternoon dress, usually with hats or fascinators.

If you love the idea of a summer garden party but haven't been invited by the Queen then maybe host your own, for a get together with your friends that you won't forget.
