Cupcake Decorating Ideas

Cupcake Decorating Ideas - If you are an artist and a baker as well, there is no better way to combine your two talents – you will have endless cupcake decorating ideas! Cupcakes have become very popular again over the past couple of years and it’s easy to understand why. They are very easy to eat, and with everyone’s busy lifestyles these days, can be a very pleasurable snack for someone with a sweet tooth. Of course decorating cupcakes can be a little time consuming but when you make a dozen or so, it just becomes a case of mass production and of course they don’t all have to look the same!
Any of your favorite flavors and colors can be combined in a cupcake; you can use a chocolate, lemon, red velvet or simply a plain sponge mix and top your cakes with contrasting icing. On top of the icing you can add anything! Candied fruit, nuts, coconut shavings, chocolate shavings, gumdrops or candy corn, which is great for Halloween cupcakes. The icing can be any color you like and also any flavor.A piping bag with a choice of nozzles is essential when you are going to take your cupcake decorating seriously, if you have never used a piping bag before the key is to get the consistency of the icing right, so it flows well and stays in the shape and place where you put it. Something that wasn’t around when I had small children are icing pens. With a steady hand, anything can be written on the top of the cake, well, as long as the word is short! I always end up eating the first couple of cakes anyway until I can get it right! Hiding the evidence I guess you’d call it.
Here are some special occasion ideas for your cupcakes:
Kids Birthday PartiesFor younger children large cakes can be rather difficult to eat, especially if they are crumbly. If they are very young, they won’t really have mastered using a fork yet, so cupcakes are an ideal way of serving a birthday cake. They can be arranged on a plate in the center of the table and the right amount of birthday candles can be put in the tops of some of the cupcakes. Or if the birthday kid is only two or three, you can put those candles in just one of the cakes for him or her.
Kids love color and candy too, so when you are out buying your baking supplies pick up a bag of colorful assorted candy and let your imagination run wild. Each cake only needs a couple of pieces to dress it up, after you have added the colored icing. Some of the colors you can buy these days are downright scary – but kids love bright screaming colors. If you do have a lot of cupcakes left over which is very unlikely, they are so easy to hand to a child in a bag or box as he is leaving, not like a traditional cake slice. Christmas Cupcakes
A lot of people simply don’t like traditional Christmas Dundee and fruit cakes, so make a batch of decorated cupcakes if you get a large amount of visitors. The three colors we think of at Christmas are of course, red, white and green, so your sponge mix could be one of these colors. Decorated with ribbons and bows, or marzipan shaped like Christmas trees can be cut and placed on top. Once you start you will have so many cupcake decorating ideas, you won’t want to stop!
