Jasmine Tea - What it is and Where it Comes From
Jasmine Tea is a classic scented tea produced in Fujian province China, Taiwan and Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
Jasmine flowers are gathered fresh, early in the morning and kept cool throughout the day. When they begin to open they are piled next to either raw black, green or oolong tea, and in only four hours the tea absorbs the wonderful jasmine scent. The tea is then refired to remove any moisture. Some higher grade teas are left longer to infuse some more of the fragrance. The blossoms are then either removed or some added to the tea mixture to give an attractive visual appeal.
Below is a video by a Chinese lady who is obviously fanatical about her tea (When she says "compromise each other" I am sure she means "complement each other"!) Anyway, I can almost smell the jasmine. It is a delicious tea if you have never tried it, and to me, it is a 'drink on my own tea' for savoring during a quiet moment.
Jasmine Pearl Tea
This tea is a delight to drink and also to look at. You can see how it is skilfully handmade in the video below, this is another tea that can be savored alone, but it does go well with spicy foods too.
Queen Elizabeth's Favorite Tea
At the four Royal Garden Parties, Queen Elizabeth serves Jasmine Earl Grey Tea, if you ever wondered. The base of this tea is a high grade black tea from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and the Bergamot which gives Earl Grey its distinctive taste, is produced from Bergamot oranges, with the addition of jasmine, I am sure this is a wonderful tea that I have yet to find in the US.
Adagio teas have a fine selection of Jasmine Teas, including a Rooibos infused with jasmine, if you can't tolerate caffeine.
Their Dragon Pearl tea is made in the same way as the tea in the video above. It is a little expensive, but you can see why, with all the finest ingredients and the labor put in to produce these wonderful Jasmine Pearls.
